Established on the Isle of Man in 1991, Island Seafare Ltd has become synonymous with quality produce within the seafood industry.

At the core of Island Seafare’s Purely Isle of Man products are the indigenous King Scallops and the world famous Manx Queenies.

Tim Croft explains “King scallops have big shells: one rounded and one flat, which they use to dig down a few inches into the seabed, making them harder to catch. The smaller queen scallops have two rounded shells which means our local fishermen have to employ different methods for each”.

But common to all sea food caught in the clear waters around the Isle of Man is the lack of ‘over-land’ transport from catch to despatch.

“The beauty of being on the Isle of Man, surrounded by the sea, is our boats can go out day-fishing the Manx waters, return at night and we can send out the fresh fish the next day, still smelling of the sea!” says Tim.

Island Seafare are keen to talk about conservation, which they feel contributes directly to the quality of their seafood.

Tim Croft explains “The scallops fished around the Island simply tend to be bigger than others in Britain. The UK fishing industry has been criticised for depleting stocks across the Irish Sea, but progressive measures taken by successive Isle of Man Governments have changed that in Manx territorial waters. Our scallops a chance to spawn”.

Island Seafare is a proud member of Purely Isle of Man, a group of the Island's finest producers and craftspeople working together to bring the best of the Isle of Man to the rest of the world.
